FAQs

We provide evidence-based treatments for acne (comedonal, inflammatory, cystic), post-acne pigmentation, melasma, photoageing (wrinkles, rough texture), and chronic redness/rosacea. These are managed with prescription topical agents including retinoids, niacinamide, azelaic acid, and compounded formulations.

Yes, for any medicine containing prescription-only ingredients (e.g., topical retinoids, clindamycin, hydroquinone >2%). Non-prescription actives like niacinamide may be included, but your GP determines if prescription-strength therapy is needed.

Our Forte Men’s Health doctors create tailored therapies and skin regimes for your specific needs. These are safe and effective in the prescribed dosages and regular reviews to adjust treatment to prevent complications.

Acne usually begins to improve after 6–8 weeks of retinoid or antimicrobial therapy, with maximal benefit at 12–16 weeks. Hyperpigmentation requires 8–12 weeks with brighteners like hydroquinone or retinoids. Wrinkle reduction and collagen stimulation are typically visible after 3–6 months of continuous use.

Improvements persist with ongoing therapy. If treatment is stopped, acne often relapses within 6–12 months. Ageing-related changes resume if retinoids or SPF are discontinued. Consistent maintenance is required for lasting results.

Forte Men’s Health doctors can prescribe topical retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene, tazarotene) which directly influence gene expression in skin cells, which reduces visible wrinkles, increases skin firmness and thickness and reduces oil production seen in acne. Cosmetic retinol must undergo conversion to retinoic acid in the skin, making it less effective.

Yes. For example, a compounded cream may combine tretinoin (collagen stimulation and acne prevention) with niacinamide (barrier support and anti-inflammatory effect), treating both acne and early photoageing.

Topical retinoids commonly cause dryness, erythema, and scaling in the first 2–4 weeks (retinoid dermatitis). Niacinamide is well tolerated, with mild irritation in <5% of users. SPF is safe unless allergic to certain filters.

Forte Men’s Health doctors provide simple easy steps to reduce side effects of treatments such as skin irritation. If this occurs, the frequency of treatment use is reduced (e.g., every second night), moisturisers are layered before or after (“sandwiching”), and milder strengths of skin treatments are prescribed. Our doctors will take a thorough history to reduce the risk of development of a true allergy and treatment formulas are modified as required.

Yes, but actives must be layered correctly. Retinoids are applied at night, followed by moisturiser. Vitamin C serums are used in the morning. Exfoliants like AHAs are avoided initially due to increased irritation risk.

Pricing varies with formula. Typical compounded prescriptions range from $1 per day including pharmacy dispensing and shipping. Discuss what treatment options are right for you during your Forte consultation.

Yes, but your doctor may recommend starting with lower retinoid strengths (e.g., 0.01–0.025%) and increasing gradually, or using niacinamide-based regimens initially. Sensitive skin protocols are tailored to reduce irritation.

Yes. Retinoids and hydroquinone increase sun sensitivity, and UV exposure negates treatment effects. Daily SPF 30–50+ reduces risk of relapse and maintains skin health.
